چکیده

We present results from MUSE observations of a 21-cm HI absorption system detected with the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder radio telescope at redshift $z = 0.4503$ towards 1.71$ quasar PKS 1610-771. identify four galaxies (A, B, X and Y) same as H I Damped Lyman-{\alpha} (DLA) system, impact parameters ranging less than 10 kpc to almost 200 sightline. Ca II Na is seen in spectrum background QSO, velocities coinciding initial detection, but tracing dense warmer gas. This metal-line component aligns rotating ionised disc galaxy B (impact parameter 18 QSO) appears be co-rotating disc. In contrast, absorber blueshifted relative nearest has opposite sign velocity field B. Since A are separated by only 17 on sky $70$ km s$^{-1}$ velocity, it likely that detection traces extragalactic clouds gas formed their interaction. reveals cold 100 K neutral critical for star formation can associated complex structures beyond disc, first case study made preparation future large surveys like ASKAP First Large Absorption Survey HI.

Sub - arcsecond imaging and spectroscopy of the radio - loud highly polarized quasar PKS 1610 – 771 ⋆

We report on imaging and spectroscopic observations of the radio-loud, highly polarized quasar PKS 1610–771 (z = 1.71). Our long-slit spectroscopy of the companion 4.55 NW of the quasar confirms the stellar nature of this object, so ruling out the previously suspected gravitationally lensed nature of this system. PKS 1610–771 looks fuzzy on our sub-arcsecondR and I images and appears located in...

Extragalactic molecular clouds and chemistry of diffuse interstellar clouds

Zusammenfassung Since the discovery of a cold molecular component of the interstellar medium in the 1970s, it has been realized that most of the dark clouds are actually molecular clouds, consisting mainly of molecular hydrogen and some amount of dust and other molecules. Nowadays, molecular clouds are recognized as places of star-formation in the Milky Way and other galaxies. Therefore, studie...

Herschel observations of Cen A: stellar heating of two extragalactic dust clouds

We present the first results of a multiwavelength survey, incorporating Herschel-SPIRE, Spitzer, GALEX and Australian Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) observations, of a 1◦ × 1◦ field centred on Centaurus A. As well as detecting the inner lobes of the active galactic nucleus (AGN) jet and counterjet, we have found two clouds, bright at submillimetre wavelengths, ∼15 kpc from the centre of Cen A t...

Late Gas Accretion onto Primordial Minihalos: a Model for Leo T and Extragalactic High-velocity Clouds

In this letter we show that primordial minihalos with vcir < 20 km s −1 stop accreting gas after reionization, as is usually assumed, but in virtue of their increasing concentration and the decreasing temperature of the intergalactic medium as redshift decreases, they have a recent phase of gas accretion and possibly star formation. We expect that some pre-reionization fossils that evolved on t...
